Brian Roettinger works primarily as a graphic designer. He has completed a handful of album covers, publications, posters, typefaces, and websites.
In 1998 Brian founded Hand Held Heart, firstly as an independent record label. It wasn’t until he received his degree in graphic design (CalArts, 04) that Hand Held Heart became not only the record label, but also a multi-disciplinary design studio. Besides managing Hand Held Heart, he is also the Art Director for the Southern California Institute of Architecture in downtown Los Angeles.
Brian has completed album covers for bands such as Liars, No Age, Death From Above 1979, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Steve Aoki and many others. In February of 2008 he was awarded the 2007 Album Designer of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine.
His work also includes catalogues for artists such as Rosson Crow, Jason Rhoades, Mark Licari, Lara Schnitger, and architects Paffard Keatinge-Clay, and Eric Owen Moss.
Roettinger continues to collaborate with artists, architects and designers and has quickly become an LA design institution, making his mark on all fronts — from music to art, architecture to typography.
